The icon behind the dress: Elizabeth Hurley
If ever a dress had a story to tell, it is surely the Versace safety pin dress that made Elizabeth Hurley famous. Catapulting the little know lady into the limelight, her appearance at the Four Weddings and a Funeral premiere on the arm of Hugh Grant in 1994 christened Elizabeth Hurley and Versace as household names. So in homage to the iconic dress, we've designed our very own modern update, The Liz Dress, £110, for the new and exclusive Little Black Dress Collection, 30 dresses inspired by fashion's greatest style icons.
The ageless star, about to turn an unbelievable 50 in June this year, has since had many-a-fabulous red carpet moments and is renowned for flaunting her incredible hourglass shape with classic figure-hugging dresses, elegant maxis and seductive plunging necklines. And she has certainly taught us to be brave and bold in our fashion choices; her new-generation feminist attitude tells women to love what they've got, and as she said when interviewed on her red carpet choices, "Versace designs clothes to celebrate the female form rather than eliminate it”. You go girl!
It's not just the fashion scene Hurley has made her mark on, but also ever since Evelyn Lauder and Alexandra Penney launched the Pink Ribbon Campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness in 1936, she has perhaps been its most visible advocate. For the past 20 years she has swapped in an LBD for a little pink dress every October, raising funds around the world and preaching pink wherever she goes!
So to celebrate the famous safety-pin dress, we bring you our contemporary version with The LBD Liz Dress, ¬£110, so you too can turn heads. For those of us who aren't as brave as Ms Hurley in the wardrobe department, this is the perfect middle ground… The mini-length and split on the left side is provocative and teasing but is perfectly balanced out by the high neckline, whilst the luxurious fabric has an element of stretch making it the perfect party dress.
This knockout piece is completed with gold safety-pin detailing and a feminine silhouette created by the expert tailoring. Wear with strappy gold heels and a dazzling clutch to give your outfit that added edge.
