Spring/Summer Trend: Flamenco

Darling florals and pretty pastels are the perfect Spring/Summer pairing, but if sugary shades and daisy prints are leaving you feeling a little uninspired then we've spotted the perfect trend for you to channel a bit more drama this season. In amongst the wash of crisp whites and delicate lace dresses of London Fashion Week, came a refreshing new fashion trend; Flamenco. Femininity is the mood of the season and the art of Flamenco is the perfect way of expressing it. Spanish influences appeared in the ready-to-wear collections of Oscar de la Renta and Missoni, with their design muses being more the alfresco-dining chicas than the martini-sipping flapper girls spotted at Gucci and Marchesa. This season, flirt with ruffles and seduce with tasselled trims as this Spanish tradition is all about expressing sexuality. Missoni exuded just that by stepping effortlessly into Spain and embracing everything glamourous about the culture. Taking the bohemian trend to a more dramatic level, the designer label used oversized flamenco ruffles on dresses and bikinis, with gorgeously quirky fan-shaped handbags tagging along for the trip.

Oscar de la Renta's S/S collection also oozed with sultry Spanish stylings as vibrant floral prints, ruffled sleeves and vivid colours created a chic summery collection with touches of cultural difference.

The wonderful world of couture also took in some Spanish influences, with our favourite LBD's cropping up in Giambattista Valli's collection. Jet black embroidered sleeves, sexy cuts and lacy ruffle-detailing oozed with flamenco glamour and transported us straight to southern Spain.

The thought of wearing ruffles may fill some of you with dread, but they are a great way of adding a bit of fun and frivolity to your wardrobe.

Try this Alice + Olivia little black dress for a wearable take on this trend, teaming it with these oversized gold earrings and vamping up your look with some Kurt Geiger statement heels. It's time to unleash your inner señorita and party the night away - Spanish style.
