She won over a president, appeared on the sleeve of a
Beatles record, featured on the cover of
Hugh Hefner's first issue of
Playboy and was snapped wearing
that William Travilla dress over a subway vent in
New York. This revealing shot remains one of Hollywood's most memorable moments, so much so that
Marilyn Monroe and her iconic style have been influencing culture and fashion ever since.
My Week with Marilyn is the latest film to chronicle the life of America's most celebrated blonde. Due to hit British cinema screens this Friday, it
charts the ups and downs of Marilyn's glamorous and pressure-filled life: making movies, mixing with the stars and trying to escape all of the above – whilst donning fabulous dresses of course!
The new film centres on Marilyn's developing relationship with assistant director
Colin Clark, during a time when her new husband
Arthur Miller has left her alone in a foreign country filming one of her first big movies,
The Prince and the Showgirl. Director
Simon Curtis depicts the Hollywood starlet, not just as a glamorous sex symbol, but as a vulnerable, and often shy young woman who struggled with her fame.
Hollywood beauty
Michelle Williams is a convincing Marilyn, with her trademark blonde curls, perfect pout and beauty spot, whilst her naturally husky voice and instinctual sexuality enables Michelle to fill Marilyn's
figure-hugging, cleavage-revealing dresses perfectly– as well as some rather big
shoes.

As well as the
statement dresses we all know and love the film legend for,
My Week with Marilyn offers a glimpse of the real Marilyn who was just as at home in her
capri pants and
chunky cardigans. Unlike many other screen sirens of her time,
Marilyn favoured neutral tones such as camel, white and black and our favourite Marilyn-esque dress is, of course, the sultry black beauty she wore for the film
Some Like it Hot.
Other fashion-worthy roles in the film include the ever-in-demand
Emma Watson who plays Marilyn's wardrobe assistant in a range of
retro twinsets and
tartan dresses, and the sleek and sexy
Julia Ormond as
Vivien Leigh, another screen siren from Marilyn's heyday.
Team LBD can't wait for
Marilyn's Hollywood glam,
50s-inspired style to trickle into our wardrobes. One glamorous
designer LBD is key. Think quality and timelessness,
figure-hugging designs to create ultra-feminine
vintage curves. We love
Helmut Lang's long black gowns for evening glamour and
Hervé Léger's bandage dresses for a modern interpretation of her look.
So don your best billowing
midi dress or show-stopping
little black mini fit for a film premiere and watch out for those vents...
My Week with Marilyn is in cinemas 25th November. Look out for our exclusive interview with the film's award-winning costumer designer, Jill Taylor, this Friday.
