The best dresses at Cannes Film Festival

It's arguably the coolest red carpet event of the year with the chicest indie actors and actresses alongside Hollywood legends, all dressed in the most decadent of evening gowns, poised and ready for the most fashionable of film premieres at Cannes Film Festival. From the designer dresses fitted with trains and hand sewn embellishment to the contemporary, minimalist pieces from little known labels this is where the movie, and fashion magic really happens. Team LBD's favourites from the night? Read on... PEEK-A-BOO: GEORGIA MAY JAGGER

If you needed any more proof that the chic but sexy cut-out dress trend was officially cool (and going nowhere), take a look at Georgia May Jagger's ruby red peek-a-boo dress for her stint in Cannes last week. The floor-length and flowing evening gown which Ms Jagger donned for the star-studded premiere of The Great Gatsby was designed by Roberto Cavalli no less and featured a flattering halterneck design and subtly embellished cut-out detailing. This is a great style of evening dress for every body shape —yes, you read right— as it gives the illusion of svelte skin beneath when really you're just flashing the flesh in a particularly flattering part of the body. Teamed with subtle jewelled earrings and a cocktail ring Team LBD give this 1920s look with a 21st century twist a big thumbs up! Get Georgia's Cannes style:

HMH Couture Euterpe Dress in Red, £200; Johnny Loves Rosie Leaf Drop Earrings in Rose Gold, £16; Moda in Pelle Pappybag Clutch in Gold Diamante, £89.95; Moda in Pelle Instinct Gold Snakeskin Peep Toe Court Shoe, £69.95.

RACY LACY: CARA DELENVIGNE

Does she ever get it wrong? That the princess of punk can make everything she wears look as haute couture as the designs she struts her stuff in for the day job is beyond us. But we're not complaining when we get such fantastic evening dress inspiration from the lovely Cara Delenvigne. In a long black lace number from Burberry Prorsum Cara mixed old Hollywood glam with 80s grunge perfectly and added a dose of sex appeal with long lace sleeves. If you're a little conscious of your arms this is the perfect style of dress for you and it will give the confidence to walk the red carpet like the model of the moment herself. Add a statement embellished collar and dazzling chandelier earrings to recreate Cara's covetable LBD look. Get Cara's Cannes style:

Elliot Claire Lori Evening Dress, £225; Fiorelli Sunburst Ring, £19.95; Lagom Ava Necklace, £65; Zoe & Morgan Sassy Silver Earrings, £116; Bourne Matilda Shoe in Black and Gold, £140.

MONO COOL: EMMA WATSON

At the premier of her new film, The Bling Ring Ms Watson was a vision in SS13's favourite monochrome colour palette. Renowned for her love of designer labels who mix seasonal trends with classic cuts and go-with-everything style it's no surprise that the young actress chose this Chanel black and white panel dress. The sweetheart neckline and spaghetti straps gave Emma a womanly figure and a real special occasion feel while the cascading white skirting and open-back are very true of the fashion house's traditional evening wear. Make like Emma and add delicate jewels, pearls and an iridescent clutch bag to complete the ethereal look. Get Emma's Cannes style:

Bernshaw Erica Monochrome Dress, £375; Johnny Loves Rosie Pearl Ball Necklace, £16; Lagom Carina Clutch in Pewter, £49; Moda in Pelle Rizora Shoe in Silver, £89.95.

SEQUIN SIREN: FREIDA PINTO

Team LBD may have been wooed by the season-savvy, laid-back-luxe looks from Cannes Film Festival but we'll always have space in our hearts for an over-the-top glitzy number. And Freida Pinto's metallic embellished evening dress was the one that really stole the show for us. Toe-tickling and covered in tiny bronze sequins Freida's more-is-more style is exactly what you want from such a prestigious red carpet attendee. While the full-on glam of head-to-toe sequins mirrors the huge retro trend for flapper exuberance the thigh-high leg-split and addition of vampy high heels and a cool box clutch bag is oh-so-now and we oh-so want it in our wardrobes! Get Freida's Cannes style:

Kelly Ewing Lily Dress in Nude, £150; Johnny Loves Rosie Art Deco Clip, £15; Aftershock Paolina Embellished Clutch Bag, £76; Bourne Poppy Shoe in Black and White, £221.
